Nuclear Training Services Ltd. Shorter On-Line Training Courses

On-Line Nuclear Training is based upon the successful and respected attendance courses regularly run in Warrington by Nuclear Training Services Ltd. Participation in the courses is by subscription. This allows the course material to be downloaded in stages from the Internet. Students can work on the material as and when they are able, at their own pace. The courses have an element of assessment associated with them.

The first course, the Practical Gamma-Ray Spectrometry, went live in November 2000. We have now added an Introduction to Radioactivity course and an Introductory Gamma Spectrometry course. These courses are comprised of modules taken from the full Online Gamma Spectrometry Course to fulfill a need for

Introduction to Radioactivity

Five modules in total, covering how and why nuclides decay and the origins of gamma-rays and other electromagnetic radiations found in our gamma spectra. The final two modules cover the mathematics of radioactive decay and growth and the statisitics of radioactivity counting.

The subscription fee, payable in advance, is: £69 per person

Introduction to Gamma Spectrometry

This course comprises seven modules which together with the Online Introduction to Radioactivity would cover all the material covered in the normal Introductory Gamma Spectrometry Course plus a couple of additional topics.

A module describing the basics of gamma spectrometry is followed by a practical, 'Sherlock Holmes', exercise in which the sudent is invited to identify nuclides in a couple of gamma spectra. Semiconductor detectors and Scintillation detectors are covered in a further two modules, followed by two on the electronics systems used gamma spectrometry. The final module discusses achieving and maintaining quality in gamma spectrometry measurements.

For UK and EU participants, VAT at 17.5% will be added. Passwords will not be released until payment is made or an official order received. If organisations wish to have a number of persons undertaking the course we would be happy to disuss special subscription terms.
